Professor Ian Tracey’s illustrious predecessor at Liverpool Cathedral, Dr Noel Rawsthorne visited Makin Organs at Shaw with Ian and spent a thoroughly enjoyable few hours playing a variety of instruments. Noel was most impressed at what he played, heard and saw and commented that they were simply the best organs he had ever played. In particular, he was simply thrilled at the Great Diapason chorus on the instrument which Ian and Keith Harrington had recently voiced.
For the Makin staff, especially organists Mark Johnson and Danny Devall, this was a day to remember which culminated in Noel and Ian playing Bach’s 29th cantata as an organ duet from memory; something that they have never done before.
