Some organ installations are straightforward and easy to carry out, whilst others are far more of a challenge and require considerably more preparation and planning. This week saw the installation of an organ in a home near Oxford which fell into the latter category.
Developed in collaboration with our customer, the final organ specification was very close to aspects of the organ in Lincoln Cathedral which has always been a very special place as this was where they were married.
The design of the organ console and pipework was exacting, requiring a specific wood and bespoke polish colour together with a pipe façade made from none-lustre pipes which were set out in a contemporary fashion. The instrument was built to be installed in a new house which rather uniquely has very few straight walls, so design and looks were paramount.
Literally the day after final installation, the organ was voiced by Professor Ian Tracey and Richard Goodall. The impact of the organ in the music room is simply stunning in terms of both acoustics and aesthetics.
The very happy customer is looking forward to many years of organ playing.
