A Gala Organ Concert is to be held in Liverpool Cathedral on Saturday 23rd June 2012 at 7.30pm given by international concert virtuoso organist, Carlo Curley. Carlo will present a programme in his inimitable style and will be joined by the Cathedral Organist, Professor Ian Tracey, who will duet with him on a specially installed Copeman Hart three manual instrument.
The concert is a fundraiser for the ongoing £900,000 appeal to renovate the cathedral organ; internationally renowned as one of the greatest church organs in the world, built as the largest musical instrument ever conceived, and still the largest organ in the UK today. Completed in 1926, it has 8 manual divisions and pedals, 199 drawstops, 10,267 pipes, and is played from 2 huge consoles. It has the power of a jumbo jet on take-off, or 5 brass bands in an enclosed space, and an ability to thrill even the least organ-minded listener.
The Appeal, now in its 3rd year, has already raised over £250,000 but is still £650,000 short of its total and this is one of many events to raise awareness and complete the total.
Admission is £15.00 In advance tickets can be purchased by sending a cheque, payable to Liverpool Cathedral Foundation (Organ Appeal), to Professor Ian Tracey at Mornington House, Mornington Terrace, Upper Duke Street, Liverpool L1 9DY.
