John Harrington has been immersed in our business since aged ten when he helped out at the installation of the four-decker Makin instrument at Inverness Cathedral in 2004. Whilst a student at school and college, John was involved in many of our installations around the country from which he gained much experience and proved to be much more than a very useful pair of hands. So fresh from college with an HND and other qualifications in electronics John formally joined the team in September 2014 as a Maintenance Engineer. In July 2015 he became a Technician Member of The Institution of Engineering and Technology with the postnominal letters TMIET being awarded.
John is an accomplished Euphonium player, but unfortunately had to put the instrument down when he became a full time member of staff due to travelling the country. To this date he is yet to graduate to the organ.
In his spare time John is a Scout Leader at his hometown group in Hazel Grove. He progressed through the Group from Beavers to Cubs, Scouts to Explorers then eventually filling in a role as a Leader. John obtained his Queen’s Scout Award and Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award whilst he was still a teenager. He enjoys planning the advanced electronics for the family model railway, but his main hobby throughout is building and repairing BRISCA F1 and F2 stockcars. These are raced on short-oval tracks around the country.
John’s latest project was building an F2 for himself, but this had to take a backseat when family life took over with the arrival of son Oliver Stanley Harrington in October 2023.
In recognition of his immense knowledge, practical skills and exemplary customer care, as demonstrated by so many verbal and written testimonials, he was promoted in February 2024 to Maintenance Manager.
